Welcome to Theodore International Startup Academy
Lisbon's Primary Years Programme (PYP)
School Concept
At TISA we focus on comprehensive learning,
project activities and entrepreneurial thinking
1
During the first half of the day, students learn core subjects (English, Science, Math, Art, Reading, etc.), work on projects and teams, and acquire useful skills for life.

2
The second half of the day is dedicated to developing skills in the professional areas — students (from age 6) can choose one of the professional tracks that help them develop necessary skills for future success (students can also change tracks during school year):

  • STEM track (robotics, programming, 3D modeling, etc.)
  • CAD track (arts, drama, music, etc).
3
During the year, all students take 2 modules of the TISA MBA program – a professional business education program for children aged 3-12, aimed at developing 21st century skills, creativity, entrepreneurial thinking and leadership potential.
School Philosophy
The curriculum provides both academic stimulation and
a wide variety of educational experiences beyond the classroom. We are committed to teaching the International Baccalaureate programme to children from 3 to 12 y.o..
Our educational practices flow from this integrated,
inquiry-based programme.
Care and compassion should be characteristic
of all relatinships within the school community. Learning takes place best in an environment that promotes care and concern for the welfare
of others. All members of the school community are encouraged to pursue excellence
and are recognized for their achievements.
All people within the school community — staff, parents, administration, and supervisory board —continue to learn alongside the students we teach. Students develop both intellectual and social skills to become critical and creative thinkers, achieve their personal best, and mature into responsible adults.
The governing body, administrative and pedagogical leadership and staff are trained on the IB platform, and the IB coordinator has general meetings with the entire school team to discuss a common view of the mission and values of the IB at TISA.
The IB coordinator conducts open days and individual meetings with parents, explaining the mission of the school and the priority of IB programs. In September, the General Parent Meeting is held, at which the IB coordinator presents the concept of IB education to parents.
TISA adopted the IB Learner Profile. The profile aims to develop learners who are:
  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective
TISA intends to promote responsible action within and beyond the school community by involving members of the school community in various TISA activities, engaging local professionals to share their experience with students, partnering with local organization for collaboration.
At TISA we emphasize on creativity, letting children explore, developing thinking and analytical skills and most importantly expressing and understanding their inner self.
• Well-designed learning programme and value-based education aligned with the school curriculum and
vision of the organisation.
• Learner-centered approach to education; conducive academic environment and progressive
outlook.
• Integration of technology in education
• Scientific temper is inculcated in each child through exploration, observation and discovery.
• Active participation and consistent achievements in various sporting and skill-based competitions.
• Focus on complete personality development. The curriculum caters to Multiple Intelligences, perfectly
harmonized to facilitate the child’s quest for knowledge,
• Global exposure to students along with career counselling and guidance
The development of language is fundamental to the need to communicate, it supports, and enhances our thinking and understanding. The learning process simultaneously involves learning language, learning about language and learning through language. All mainstream classes are taught in and through the English Language.
Students learn Portuguese through two differentiated groups – Portuguese as native language and Portuguese as a foreign language. To be able to gainfully access the curriculum, students who join TISA without English Language skills, attend extra ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) classes during their first academic year at the school. After this twelve-month intensive set of classes, they are supported by teachers in the classrooms.
Language learning in Primary School takes place within the context of the units of inquiry and also as a separate subject. The overall expectations for language learning are described in five developmental phases with each phase building upon and complementing the previous one.
These phases cover TISA students from grade 1 through grade 7. There are four strands within the Language Framework:
  • Oral language — listening and speaking
  • Visual language — viewing and presenting
  • Written language — reading
Written language — writing.
PYP is a mandatory program for all students aged from 3 to 12.
